This blog is designed to chronicle insights into how cycling and one bicycle can help change the lives of everyday Africans.
Articles are based on observation, interviews and statistical data.
With experience working at three African non-profit organisations dedicated to improving the lives of everyday Namibians, author Mark Nonkes has seen the work in action and truly believes a bicycle can help transform a life.
Originally from Huron County, Ontario, Mark moved to Namibia in 2007 as a volunteer web designer and journalist for a human rights, non-profit law firm. In the year that followed, he has become involved with two organisations dedicated to providing affordable and sustainable transportation options to everyday Namibians. At the Bicycle Empowerment Network (BEN) Namibia, Mark is spreading the word about the importance of bicycles in the Namibian context through various communication activities. And at Physically Active Youth, an after-school sports and tutoring program, he coaches a team of young Namibian cyclists.
By donating a second-hand bicycles, parts and accessories, along with funding to send the shipment by boat to Namibia, you can help change a life. Take part today.
